God Street Wine Announce 3 NYC Shows In 2012!

Much like chumming for sharks, 90's NYC Rock Kings, God Street Wine, have spent the past week baiting their fans (Winos) into a feeding frenzy. Though it had been dormant for a while, a new message appeared on godstreetwine.com every day last week. Messages included song lyrics, history lessons, and general silliness to help conjure up a bloodthirsty kind of excitement-- so, just what in the hell was GSW up to?

Today we learn (via a clip of the now legendary Waiting For the Tide moment from the Gramercy in 2010 that reminds us how pants-shittingly awesome those shows were, and a cordial invite -- "hey man, it's purple!"), that:
GSW will be playing 3 shows this summer at the Gramercy Theater in NYC. *insert squeals of delight here*

I do remember it, and it WAS quite fun.

Always with the etiquette...

All three shows go on sale this Wednesday, 3/14/12, at 10AM. Please note: the last time GSW played the Gramercy Theater, tickets sold out in mere minutes. So, if you want tickets to any of these shows, it is absolutely imperative that you have your shit together for presale this Wednesday. Most importantly-- here are each of the ticketmaster links you will need to purchase said presale tickets:
2nd most importantly, the presale password is: Toonces

You know-- Toonces, the driving cat. The cat who could drive a car.

I repeat, YOUR WINO PRESALE PASSWORD IS: Toonces

Let's recap:
  • THIS WEDNESDAY
  • 10AM
  • Toonces
And in Haiku form:
Wednesday is Presale,
at 10AM type: Toonces
Don't fuck up, people.

Buy early, buy often (but not if you're a scalper), and bring your friends! Come one, come all! Old and new Winos alike! These shows are gonna ROCK! Fer fack's sake, Tomo's been practicing for months!

And if you don't know who God Street Wine are and for some reason you are still reading this-- head over to the archive and check out some GSW right now-- follow this link, press play, and stream one of my favorite shows!

Todd Snider, 2/2/11, Joe's Pub, NYC

Todd Snider, 2/2/11, Joe's Pub, NYC

I heart Todd Snider and wish I had time to review in full detail this wonderful show. However, having barely slept in a week and needing to leave for Saranac Lake tomorrow for a very special Winter Carnival weekend of Mutation with Ominous Seapods-- this Todd show will be brought to you by the magic of HAIKU-VISION.

Grilled cheese with bacon,
molten lava tomatoes,
singed roof in it's wake.

Oh, Todd Snider's hat,
both floppy and brim-tastic.
Occasional eyes.

Storyteller Tour.
He's masterful & charming,
intense, and barefoot.

Requests from the crowd?
Todd Snider was there to please.
I want to hug him.

Hey Drunk Girl, up front!
You can't pee in the Coat Check!
Still, Todd forgave her.

Goddamn, Todd Snider.
you are so fucking awesome.
9 barefoot HUZZAHS!

Thank you to Marquis,
for Todd Snider in my life.

the Jayhawks, 1/21/11, Webster Hall, NYC

Gabe's^ Jayhawks extra,
for Tomorrow The Green Grass-
sounded totes awesome.

Pregame at The Smith.
Cucumber Margarita?
That was kind of strange.

The Jayhawks' brand of
alt-country folkish rock stuff
goes down real easy.

The most well-behaved
group of white people, EVER,
eating it all up.

Another album
in exactly 7 days?
I'm meh on this trend.

It was fun, indeed.
Grape Kool-Aid? I'll have to pass.
6.5 HUZZAHS!

The Black Crowes, 11/4/10, Best Buy Theater, NYC, NY

The Black Crowes, 11/4/10, Best Buy^ Theater (this name is still BLEAH), NYC, NY

They weren't allowing photography for these shows and I cooperated. So, instead of photographs in this review, I will paint you glorious pictures with my words in the form of inspirational Haiku fucking awesomeness. Let it be known that I had an allergic reaction to something today and am currently riding the mighty crest of a Benedryl buzz.

Pregame at Baumy's!
Empanadas for dinner!
Exclamation points!!!

The line to get in,
'round the corner to Broadway,
when The Crowes began.

More packed than ever.
Thanks, Mark, for the Mezz sticker.
It's nice to see Chris.

For the second set,
I found The Crowes Running Crew.
We rocked out Rich-side.

Hey, Tall, Fat, Asshole,
standing in front of two girls.
You'll NEVER get laid!

I went back upstairs,
for a clear view of the band.
Sorry, my floor peeps.

Two sets to say bye.
I preferred the Electric
over acoustic.

The Southern Blues Rock
and my Black Crowes Running Crew
will surely be missed.

Some solo albums
and a few years of living.
We know they'll be back.

The Crowes were rockin'.
A fifty-dollar ticket
is a bit steep, yo.

For post-show fun-times:
a loud, shitty, cover band,
until we found Munsch.

Little B.D.J.
on a Mid-Town Adventure,
needs a G.P.S.!

The Black Crowes, 11/4/10

SET I (acoustic)

Phish, 10/23/10, Amherst, MA

Phish, 10/23/10, Mullins Center, Amherst, MA

I didn't put in for any Phish Fall Tour Lottery or even try and buy during onsale this year because 1) MSG is right around the corner, and 2) Quite honestly, I've been feeling sentenced to getting a YEM and Prince Caspian at practically every show I've been to since their return in '09, therefore 3) If I hear YEM or Caspian more than one more time this year (this includes the 2010 portion of the MSG run), Trey is in serious danger of getting bitch-slapped. With plenty of other Fall Tours on my list, Phish didn't feel obligatory, which is kind of an odd feeling. If a ticket came my way and the mood struck me, I'd take it from there.

The rest of this review will be presented in Haiku verse.

Mark's extra Amherst
for a round-trip adventure,
was a decent deal^.

Amish Sammiches,
Mark learns all about Sea Salt,
eats a Snackers bar.

Lot traffic totes blew.
No more waiting- make a right!
We'll walk to The Phish!

A first set moment:
B.B.F.C.F.M., YES!
Weird vibes from the crowd?

Fishman saved the set,
running around and screaming.
TweezeStick Reprise, whaaat?!

Big My Friend x 2,
a fun Maze and Harry Hood,
Shine A Light was nice.

His silver hair glowed.
My intestines were bouncing,
Mike was showing off.

Caspian and YEM,
Oh, The Phish, how you mock me.
*cold slap of my palm*

HIGHLIGHTS in glorious Technicolor!
Set 1: Meatstick, Party Time, Golgi Apparatus, Kill Devil Falls, Tweezer, Lawn Boy, Sparkle > Big Black Furry Creature from Mars, HYHU > Love You > HYHU, Possum > Tweezer Reprise

Set 2: Down With Disease > My Friend My Friend > Prince Caspian > Halfway to the Moon > Boogie On Reggae Woman > Maze, Wading in the Velvet Sea > Piper > Harry Hood > You Enjoy Myself

Encore: Shine A Light

^ and there was Alice Cooper Karaoke (which is itself, too many syllables to deal with putting into a Haiku right now) on the ride back!

Tired. Must.. keep.. review... concise. SAVE ME, SWEET HAIKU!

Barefoot Anarchist.
Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll...
and polka dot tie.

I dig Todd Snider.
The Allen Room is so nice.

off to the glue factory with you, eric byrnes... the glue factory.

monday night led to an unfortunate turn of events for arizona diamondback's OF eric byrnes. back after approximately one month on the DL with a tear in each of his hamstrings (he was finally forced onto the DL after 2 months of struggling and "toughing it out"), byrnes finally made it all the way to 2B. perhaps his horrible mustache was working!

fantasy managers everywhere heaved a sigh of relief. that is, until he tried to steal 3B- after a quick sprint he came up lame and did a flying belly-flop to the ground like some sort of spectacular paraplegic ballerina. on-field trainers quickly diagnosed the condition as grave and did the only thing they could do in that situation... they put him down. right there at 3B, in front of thousands in the stadium and millions watching on tv.

http://arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200807013039496

it's hard to say if it was the right move, but at least it was done in a humane way. like barbaro, he's in a better place now. a place where it's 2007 all the time and he can run free in the lavender meadows with kevin brown, jeremy bonderman, nomar garciaparra, and all the rest of the injured ballplayers who expired before their time.

eric byrnes, a haiku

launching then flying
right and left both hammies pop
to pasture with you

goodbye, eric byrnes. R.I.P. 1976-2008
